Passion for music And Dedication to excellence!

learning music is play and discipline

Piano lessons are an opportunity to practice experiencing the present moment with curiosity, and approaching problems with discipline, informed practice, and supportive self-talk. This is a difficult needle to thread for people of all ages and levels, but with daily practice (what!), it transfers to all areas of life. If you can learn to play an instrument, you can learn how to do anything.

musical intentions

Goal #1: Students become collaborators in their own learning.

  • Individualized Instruction: Every student is unique, with their own goals, strengths, and challenges. Lessons are tailored to the specific needs and interests of each student, fostering a supportive and personalized learning environment.

Goal #2: Students develop into confident and capable musicians.

  • Fundamental Skills: In addition to physical skills, lessons at WCPL build a strong foundation in music theory, technique, and ear training. These essential skills not only enhance students' playing abilities but also enable them to explore a wide range of musical genres and styles.

  • Inspiration through Exploration: Students are encouraged to explore diverse musical genres and pieces to broaden their musical horizons. From classical masterpieces to contemporary hits, the goal is to instill a love for music that will last a lifetime.

  • Performance Opportunities: Performing in front of others is a vital aspect of musical development. Throughout the year, there are performance, competition, and workshop opportunities to boost students' confidence and showcase their progress.

Testimonials

Emily is a great teacher! Our eight year old daughter has been taking lessons with her for over a year and has learned to read and play music at a level that has surpassed my expectations. She is patient, yet firm, and encourages her to enjoy the “fun” of playing but also to learn the skills that allows the fun to be played. I highly recommend her if you are looking for an enthusiastic, competent, and professional music teacher, no matter the age of the student

Emily is a wonderful teacher! She really packed a lot of information into each lesson, and picked a variety of relevant fun music pieces for me to play. I really appreciated her approach since my lessons were thirty minutes. Also, as an older student with little piano experience, I thought she was very patient and encouraging.

Emily goes far beyond just teaching piano- she has worked with each of us to learn what it is to think and play musically. Repeatedly I have been impressed with her patience and humor as she has adapted her teaching to our different learning styles. With my son, she has incorporated games and rhythm sessions (especially when his focus is waning) along with listening exercises (ear training). With myself, Emily works on technique, sight reading, expression, shaping, and also breaking down challenging sections in creative ways that allows the brain to tackle it from a whole new angle, which has been transformative. She is a treasure and we are so grateful!
